The son of a parking lot owner in Washington, DC, Alex Gambal left his family business to become the first non-frenchman to make Grand Cru Batard Montrachet in Burgundy, France. After a fruitful 30 year career as an American Vigneron, he sold his business and moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where he volunteers as a ski host, naturalist and works in community development.
He is the chairman of the Dee Williams Freestyle Fund, a charitable foundation named after his late wife to benefit promising mogul skiers to the World Cup and Olympic level. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and Centre Formation Professional wine school in Beaune, France.
