Event Description

In 1981, Susana Balbo became the first female in Argentina to earn a degree in enology. This was only the beginning of what has proven to be a tour de force career. Initially serving as a consulting winemaker, Susanna’s early work led to important advancements associated with the indigenous Torrontes grape. After nearly twenty years assisting others in making beautiful wines, Susana created her own brand in 2000 and broke ground for her eponymous winery the following year in the town of Agrelo in the Luján de Cuyo district of Mendoza. 

Three times elected to the Presidency of Wines of Argentina by her peers, Susana’s work ethic, innovative approach to winemaking and dedication to the worldwide success of Argentine wine have all been cited. Her pioneering spirit, skill and drive have also yielded epithets such as “one of the most influential winemakers,” ”woman of the year,” and “one of the 10 most influential women in the wine world”. Today Susana Balbo has four very successful brands to her name.
