His journey began at Edgewood Estate in Napa Valley, following his graduation from the esteemed University of California, Davis, where he honed his expertise in viticulture and enology.
In 1999, Scott joined the Robert Mondavi Family of Wines, quickly rising through the ranks. As Assistant Winemaker at La Famiglia di Robert Mondavi, he played a crucial role in shaping the portfolio. By 2001, he was promoted to Director of Winemaking, overseeing production and innovation across the brand. His influence extended globally, representing Robert Mondavi’s interests in Italy, where he worked with the iconic wines of Luce, Lucente, and Ornellaia, and in Australia, collaborating with Rosemount Estates on a prestigious joint venture.
Scott’s leadership and winemaking expertise next led him to Estancia Estates in Monterey County, where he served as General Manager and Director of Winemaking. His tenure there was marked by a dedication to excellence, crafting wines that earned critical acclaim and expanded Estancia’s reputation.
In 2013, Scott fulfilled his long-held dream of founding his own winery in Oregon’s Umpqua Valley. Paul O’Brien Winery, a partnership with fellow winemaker Dyson Paul DeMara, represents his passion for artisanal winemaking and innovation. As a pioneer in the Oregon wine scene, Scott brings a deep respect for tradition while embracing modern techniques to create wines of unparalleled depth, elegance, and complexity.
