Angelos Iatridis

Winemaker & Co-Founder

Alpha Estate | Amyndeon, Greece

Angelos Iatridis is the CEO and visionary winemaker behind the internationally acclaimed wines of Alpha Estate, based in Amyndeon, Greece. He studied Chemistry at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki before moving to France, where he earned the Diplôme National d’Œnologue from the University of Bordeaux II in 1992.

His diploma thesis, conducted under the supervision of Professor Bertrand, focused on wine off-flavours using gas chromatography and spectrophotometry, and received an award from the French Enologists’ Association. His technical expertise was further refined through extensive training at leading French institutions, including the Institut Technique du Vin in Alsace, the Station Œnotechnique de Champagne (Martin Vialatte), Château Liversan in Haut-Médoc, Château Montus in Madiran, and the Rhône Valley (Université de Suze-la-Rousse).

In the late 1990s, Angelos identified the Amyndeon plateau: Greece’s highest and coolest appellation, as the ideal ecosystem for expressing his philosophy of world-class, cool-climate winemaking. Today, he oversees Alpha Estate’s 220-hectare privately owned monoblock vineyard, a rare asset that allows for long-term experimentation and precision viticulture at scale.

Over the past two decades, his work has played a decisive role in establishing PDO Amyndeon and Xinomavro on the international fine-wine map. Alpha Estate has been recognised as a “Top 100 Winery of the Year” by Wine & Spirits Magazine in 2013, 2017, 2021, and 2022, while Angelos Iatridis was nominated “Winemaker of the Year” by Wine Enthusiast Magazine in 2014. His wines are widely regarded as benchmarks of modern Greek viticulture.
