Great Wines in Grand Houses

Exquisite wines will be tasted with the guidance of experts in rarely-seen surroundings at these special intimate tastings that are limited to 12-20 people. Upon arrival, guests will be served a palate-honing glass of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label Champagne. Tasting will be "sit down" with S. Pellegrino and Acqua Panna water. A tasting listed as a dinner tasting also includes dinner; look for the green type that designates a dinner tasting. Dinners include the official bread of the Nantucket Wine Festival: the artisan breads of Pain d'Avignon. A tasting listed as a brunch also includes brunch; look for the blue type that designates a brunch.

  • Tastings (except dinner tastings) require 1.5 to 2 hours
    of time, and punctuality is requested.
  • Locations and directions will be sent with tickets.
  • Transportation arrangements should be made by the ticket holder.

Burgundy wunderkind Alex Gambal has made his mark as an American winemaker in Burgundy who has won the respect of his French colleagues and the international wine press. Alex's wines are found in many of Nantucket's great restaurants. A great opportunity to learn about Burgundy. He's quite a showman, as well. Wines: Meursault Clos du Cromin 2005, 2006, and 2007, and Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Clos St. Jean 2006 and 2007.

Richard Arrowood is one of the most esteemed winemakers in California. He put Chateau St. Jean on the map with their early bottlings. He then moved on to found, with his wife Alis, the Arrowood winery. Alis will be presenting. She has some fascinating stories to tell of the early years at Arrowood; and some superb Cabernet Sauvignons for guests to taste. Wines: 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005 Reserve Speciale Cabernet Sauvignon, Sonoma County.

In 1986, winemaker Michael Etzel and his "beau frere", Robert Parker Jr, purchased an old farm in the Willamette Valley in Oregon, then slowly transformed the land into the jewel of a vineyard it is today. Since their first vintage in 1991, the Beaux Freres philosophy has remained the same; to produce world-class Pinot Noir from small, well-balanced yields. This vertical tasting of Beaux Freres will be presented by Kurt Johnson, Director Sales & Marketing. Wines: The Beaux Freres Vineyard 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007.

Stuart Bryan and Suzanne Pride Bryan, owners of Pride Mountain Vineyards, will pour a rare vertical of their acclaimed Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2001-2006. The Napa/Sonoma county line runs through the middle of Pride Mountain's historic ranch where grapes have been grown for over 140 years. Robert Parker names Pride Mountain as one of the world's greatest wine estates and the Pride wines have appeared on the Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of the World list five times since the year 2000.

The Hess Collection traces its beginning to 1978, when Swiss entrepreneur Donald Hess purchased vineyard land on Mount Veeder. The Visitors Center seamlessly links the original 1903 winery structure with contemporary art and architecture. The visitors experience is that of the link between wine and art: a passion for life. The Martinelli family has grown grapes in Sonoma County since 1860. All of their wines are produced from estate grown grapes still farmed by the Martinelli Family, almost 150 years later. Since its founding in 2002, Cliff Lede formed an unrivaled team to make the most of its remarkable Stags Leap District property. First onboard was noted viticulturist David Abreu, known for his work with Screaming Eagle, Harlan and Bryant. Michelle Edwards, formerly with Colgin, was then hired as Winemaker. Consultant Michel Rolland, who has worked with Ornellaia, Harlan and Chateau Le Bon Pasteur, was then retained. Industry veteran Jack Bittner is the General Manager of the project. This year, the wines of Domaine Comte Senard will be presented by Philippe's enchanting wife Beatrice. Beatrice will give the assembled diners the real story of the great estate that is their home on the famous hill of Corton. For over 500 years, the Senard family has been linked to this land. An evening of laughter and wine. Dinner by Chef Eric Brennan, of Post 390, Boston's hottest new restaurant. Eric is an old friend of the Nantucket Wine Festival who has impressed us over the years with his dynamic energy and culinary mastery. Post 390 has taken Boston by storm since its opening this fall.
