Markus Huber received his education in viniculture and oenology in Klosterneuburg, Austria. After visits abroad in South Africa, he began to expand his small, more than 250 year-old family-owned winery into an internationally recognized, leading Austrian company. His goal is to produce white wines of the highest quality, that reflect their origins. Huber wines are characterized by their elegance, fine minerality, precision and complexity. In January 2016, Markus received the “Best of Austria” award, showcasing Austrian entrepreneurs who represent the country in agriculture, innovative technologies and forward-thinking businesses. Its focus is on sustainability, progress and quality.  Join him for a taste of the best of Austria - Weingut Markus Huber.

Markus Huber, Owner & Winemaker, Weingut Markus Huber

As a young man, Markus dreamed of becoming a professional football (soccer) player. Markus was brought up in Reichersdorf, Austria - where his parents ran their vineyard and studied at the HBLA in Klosterneuburg, graduating as a Viticultural engineer. In the end, Markus decided to follow on with the family tradition of winemaking in Austria with roots dating back over 220 years. To gain international winemaking knowledge, he interned in Austria at wineries including Mittelback, Jurtschitsch and Bründlmayer. Austria was followed by a stint in South Africa where he spent time working at some of the best wineries in the country, including Kaapzicht, Spiceroute & Lammershoek. He has been described as a winemaker to watch and a ‘Wunderkind’ (British Decanter Magazine) by the press. Together with his close-knit team the winery has already achieved huge success and numerous awards on the international stage.
